The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) wishes to inform the public that healthcare facilities in Pretoria North are currently impacted by Rand Water’s scheduled regulatory inspection and maintenance of the Hartebeeshoek Reservoir, which commenced on 3 July and expected to be completed on 18 July 2025. The affected facilities comprise Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, Odi Hospital, Jubilee Hospital and primary healthcare facilities in Pretoria North.

To ensure continuity of healthcare services, the GDoH is working closely with the municipality to implement contingency measures. The local authority has committed to dispatching water tankers to the affected facilities to replenish Jojo tanks and reservoirs.

Most health facilities have water storage capacity for 2 to 4 days as they are equipped with Jojo tanks (clinics), and reservoirs (hospitals) with some also having boreholes.

Presently, primary healthcare facilities are operating at minimal capacity, and emergency patients are being diverted to the next level of care.

The GDoH will remains on high alert and continues to closely monitor the situation, and provide updates on any developments affecting the provision of health services in its facilities.
