Sinkhole - Geotechnical investigations undertaken along Snake Road

Department of Roads and Transport 2019/11/03 - 23:00

Following a site inspection, it is anticipated that the road will remain closed until March next year at least. The sinkhole has doubled in depth and width since it was first identified on 02 November 2019.

The road is closed between Golden Drive and Pioneer Road.

Road users are urged to use Tom Jones offramp when travelling towards Heidelberg and those from the south are urged to use Pioneer and turn right to Bunyan Street.

The Department apologises for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Update

The remedial process is planned to commence in February, and is expected to be completed around July 2020.

According to the geotechnical report, the sinkhole was caused by the water ingress from damaged storm water pipe into erodible fill material.
