People or organisations who exhibit and/or train performing animals or use of animals for safeguarding are required to register and obtain a license for these activities.   Under the Performing Animals Act, Act No. 4 of 2016, Gauteng Veterinary Services has direct jurisdiction over:

• approval of facilities where such animals are kept;
• Permitting the movement of such animals

Once a license is issued it needs to renewed on an annual basis.
