Description

Community based care and support services are offered to older persons within their communities to promote independent living.

Community-based care and support services aims to promote independent living as well as the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of persons 60 years and older,  who are still active, mobile and can function independently within the community.​

Types of services

​Services in respect of Indigent Policy e.g. social relief, material assistance, etc.​

  • Capacity Building e.g. ABET, Parenting life skills e.t c..
  • Education, awareness and advocacy programmes on ageing
  • Facilitate provision of counselling services
  • Recreational and spiritual motivation activities
  • Facilitate provision of health services
  • Active ageing programme
  • Social integration/intergenerational programme
  • Provision of meals
  • Services and programmes for older persons and their families infected and affected by HIV and AIDS
  • Protection services against abuse
  • Day care services​
​How to access the service?​
Older persons can visit the Gauteng Department of Social Development office or a registered NPO facility in your area.
