Finance MEC to preside over graduation ceremony of municipal supply chain officials
MEC of Finance and e-Government Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will preside over the graduation ceremony of more than 50 officials from various municipalities in the province who successfully completed the municipal supply chain management learnership program; and qualified as SCM practitioners.
This learnership program is a joint initiative between National Treasury, the Transport Sector Education and Training Authority and Provincial Treasuries. It was developed in 2019 to provide an opportunity for employed municipal SCM officials that did not have a formal SCM qualification to be trained and achieve appropriate skills in this area.
The learnership is accredited as a standard based qualification termed the Higher Certificate: Supply Chain Management. It consists of 152 credits at NQF Level 05 on the South African National Qualification Framework for the elective stream – Purchasing and Supply for the Public Sector.
Public sector procurement is central to government’s service delivery system. At municipal level, it is through procurement that municipalities can provide basic services including electricity, water, and sanitation to the public.
