The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) remains on high alert following a notice of planned water supply interruptions due to infrastructure maintenance by Rand Water from 29 May – 02 June 2025.

In a bid to ensure that public hospitals and clinics in Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Tshwane are not severely impacted the GDoH in collaboration with municipalities has activated contingency measures.
As part of these measures, most health facilities have Jojo tanks, boreholes and reservoirs that can supply water for a duration of 2 to 4 days.

The municipalities will assist with dispatching water tankers to the affected health facilities in the three districts. The GDoH will augment this by sourcing additional water supply.

The public is advised that while necessary steps have been taken to minimise impact, we urge everyone to use water responsibly and sparingly as advised by various local authorities and Rand Water.

The department will closely monitor the situation across its facilities and keep the public updated should there be new developments which have a bearing on service provision. We plead with the members of the public to exercise patience during this period.
