The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is calling on public transport operators who have applied and not collected their Operating Licenses to visit their regional Transport Operating License Administrative Bodies (TOLAB) and collect their Licenses by the 31 May 2023 before they are cancelled.

The Department is currently in possession of a total of 1188 uncollected operating licenses that were issued between 2018 and 2023.

One of the core mandates of the Department of Roads and Transport is to regulate public transport in the province through the issuance of Operating Licenses.

This mandate is derived from the National Land Transport Act (NLTA) and its supporting regulations.

Section 18 (1) the NLTA provides that operators of public transport services must hold an Operating License for each vehicle operated. An Operating License is required where the transport is provided for a fare or reward.
