The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) wishes to advice the public that Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH) will introduce new daily visiting hours from Monday, 01 September 2025. Visiting times will change to 13h00–15h00 (including weekends) from the previous 14h00–16h00.
This follows the completion of a consultation process with staff, organised labour, and clinical departments which was informed by the constant feedback from the public.
The adjustment is part of broader efforts to improve the hospital environment and ensure that patient care remains the top priority.
“By aligning visiting hours with clinical workflows, the hospital aims to support patient recovery, reduce disruptions to medical routines, and strengthen infection prevention and control measures. The new schedule also contributes to better security management and smoother operational flow throughout the hospital.
“Importantly, special arrangements will continue for paediatric patients, those in critical care, and end-of-life situations, where visits will be managed with compassion and sensitivity by clinical teams. These exceptions will ensure that families can be present during the most critical moments while maintaining the integrity of care protocols,” explains CHBAH CEO Dr Nthabiseng Makgana.
Earlier this year, the hospital confirmed that visiting hours were under review and dismissed misleading social media claims suggesting that visitors would be made to pay a fee to see their loved ones.
With the review process now complete, the public is urged to cooperate with the new schedule and support the hospital’s commitment to improving patient outcomes and staff wellbeing.
The Gauteng Department of Health remains dedicated to creating a healing environment that balances the needs of patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
