Department of Health Department of Health 2023/12/11 - 22:00

In an effort to ensure access to resources required to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, will on Wednesday officially open the Chemotherapy Laboratory and Burns Unit at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital.

A variety of laboratory tests are critical in the proper diagnosis and treatment of cancer, which according to the World Health Organization, is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020. This is due to limited resources required for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Burns on the other hand are one of the most severe forms of trauma requiring immediate emergency medical care in a dedicated unit which is crucial for the best possible outcomes for victims.

The opening of the two facilities is a significant step in the Gauteng Department of Health’s commitment to expanding resources for improving health care services in the province.

Members of the media are invited as follows: Date: 13 December 2023 Time: 14:00 Venue: Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital, (3111 Setlogelo Street, Ga-Rankuwa Zone 2, Pretoria North)
