The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) will tomorrow, Wednesday, 29 March 2023 take the First Responder Training offered by the Lebone College of Emergency Care (LCEC) to the community of Bekkersdal in West Rand.

The free raining is part of the GDoH’s efforts to empower participants to be able to respond to commonly encountered emergencies such as trauma, accidents, medical and suicide incidents while awaiting emergency response teams.

Since taking the First Responder Training to communities earlier this month, a total of 160 people from Kwa-Masiza Hostel in Sebokeng (107) and Meyerton Farm in Midvaal (53) have received the training. The GDoH is running the training from March to December 2023 in townships, informal settlements and hotel (TISH) communities across the five districts in the province. The target is to empower a total of 2 500 individuals by end of the year.

The Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will tomorrow oversee the training programme.

The first responder training equips participants with skills on how to assist victims when they have convulsions, stab or gunshot wounds, victims who fell from heights, people with sprains and those who sustained burns, as well as those who are drowning.
