The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has noted the continuing interest on
the future of Kempton Park hospital and related security issues and would like to
clarify our position as follows.
As previously explained by the department, the Gauteng Infrastructure Finance
Agency (GIFA) is actively exploring options that will have a bearing on the future
of the disused Kempton Park hospital.
Already, the Expression of Interest was advertised to test the market, and this
will inform the decision on whether to refurbish the existing facility or to demolish
and build new facility. Both options will have huge financial implications hance
the need to explore Public Private Partnership.
While this process is ongoing, the GDoH is committed to remodel the current
security arrangements to minimise the costs while ensuring that the facility
remains secured.
As things stands, the GDoH is awaiting feedback from GIFA to determine the
best suitable funding methods taking into consideration the number of factors
including costs.
We understand the concerns raised and acknowledges the need to expand
access to healthcare to meet the growing demand across the province. A
decision will be made in due course on the future of Kempton Park hospital.
