Gauteng celebrates achievement of township entrepreneurs

The Gauteng Provincial Government has made significant strides in empowering township entrepreneurs. This was evident when on Wednesday, 11 September 2019 when entrepreneur and brew master Ndumiso Madlala launched Eyethu Beverages. at the Centurion Industrial Park.

Madlala gained popularity with his craft beer Soweto Gold, when he was crowned the Best Township Entrepreneur by Premier David Makhura in 2016.

Eyethu Beverages is a majority black-owned company that manufactures alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to retail markets of South Africa and neighbouring countries.

Speaking at the launch, Premier Makhura said: "The province is proud to witness this ground-breaking initiative launched by Eyethu. We know that Gauteng is a leading economy not only in South Africa but also in the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region. We also acknowledge that major sectors of our economy require cooperation between big and small enterprises".

The Premier said that the diversification of the social economy could not be placed on hold as it hinders with the vision of creating a conducive working environment between established and emerging businesses.

"Everywhere in the world, it is difficult to predict the economy. Hence there should always be partnerships in order to assist upcoming and established businesses to conquer in our markets. One of the things that  the sixth administration is discussing is that the provincial government should nudge big players to help grow small businesses. Africa is entering a free continental trade and it is important for small businesses to grasp this opportunity," Premier Makhura stressed.

Meanwhile, Ndumiso Madlala said he was thankful for the support in which the provincial government is giving him.  "I would like to give my sincere gratitude to the premier of the province. His office has showed me a great amount of professionalism and support in my journey of becoming an entrepreneur," Madlala said.
