Premier David Makhura on Tuesday visited various infrastructure projects in Ekurhuleni to assess and monitor progress.

Accompanied by Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina, Makhura visited the Masechaba water reservoir which is still under construction as well as the Duduza swimming pool.

Once completed the Masechaba reservoir will address water shortages for residents of Tsakane.

It will also increase the average storage of the entire City of Ekurhuleni from 24 hours to 36 hours by June 2022.

The city had 29 water reservoirs in 2016. Over the past five years it has built an additional 29 reservoirs at a tune of R1, 2 billion.

Premier Makhura and Mayor Masina also went on an inspection tour of the newly built Duduza swimming pool project.

The pool, which is ready for handover, comprises of a 25X25m adult pool and an 8X8 children's section.

Makhura said putting infrastructure like this makes townships communities habitable.

"They make townships to be places where our children will not be found in wrong places. They develop a love for arts and sports, also it's a place of positive entertainment," he said.

Premier Makhura went on to visit the Monty Motloung Hall vaccination site which has vaccinated over 20 784 people since March.

On average the site vaccinates about 200 people per day.

Premier Makhura said Gauteng has reached another milestone in its vaccination programme on Monday when it reached 4,2 million vaccines administered.

"We are chasing to administer one million vaccinations for Ekurhuleni this week, I am confident that the City will reach that milestone. At the provincial level, we have administered 4,2 million vaccines.

"Yesterday we reached another milestone of 3 million people vaccinated with either one dose of Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson. We are chasing the third milestone which is 2 million fully vaccinated people," said Makhura.

The Gauteng vaccination rollout programme continues to expand through innovative partnerships between government, civil society, faith-based organisations, media, the taxi industry and business.
