MEC Motara monitors construction of Rust-Ter-Vaal School

The MEC for Department of Infrastructure Development and Property Management Ms. Tasneem Motara visited construction site of the new Rust-Ter-Vaal Secondary School in Vereeniging on the 14 April 2021 to inspect progress.
MEC Motara was accompanied by Construction Project Manager Ms. Thato Motebang as well as the CLO, project managers from the contractor, and the DID team. The Project Manager and contractor gave an update on progress since the MEC's last visit, indicating that there is progress on the project, which is currently tracking at 60%.
The MEC said the urgency of completing the new school was that both the Primary and the Secondary School were currently located on the same premises at 2 Jacaranda Avenue, Rust Ter Vaal, Vereeniging and hence the new facility will contribute to a conducive learning environment.
The project manager said the scope of works consists of a completely new school to replace the existing school, inclusive of a fully integrated Smart School compliant rollout by the Department of Education. The project is a Greenfield development intended to accommodate 1,000 learners and will be located two blocks away at 8 Kiaat Avenue, Rust Ter Vaal, Vereeniging, erf 280.
The new facilities will include admin offices, staff room, staff toilets, a guard house, school hall, laboratories, classrooms, pump room, generator room, refuse area, sports facilities, and change rooms for learners.
MEC Motara was content with the progress on the project, saying the work done currently is tracking at 60% and upon completion the new school will provide adequate and conducive learning and teaching space and will improve working conditions and providing facilities for the staff. She said progress on site had significantly improved since the last visit. The contractor also submitted a programme for the completion of the project during the current financial year 2021/2022.
