Gauteng Department of Health MEC, Dr Masuku joined by the department's HOD, Prof. Mkhululi Lukhele today received a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP-SA) in Ormonde, Johannesburg.

The PPEs consignment is made up of visors, goggles, thermometers, sanitizers, reusable masks and disposable aprons.

The donation comes as the number of Gauteng infections continues to increase rapidly.

"Thank you, UNDP-SA, for this generous donation which will contribute immensely to the provincial response to the pandemic. May this be the starting point of building a partnership for health, a partnership towards a stronger and better health system," said MEC Masuku

The UNDP representative, Dr Ayodele Odusola said they are humbled to contribute these PPEs.

"This donation might be a small drop in an ocean, but we pray that it will go a long way in keeping our health care workers and our communities safe," said Dr Ayodele Odusola.

Dr Odusola said the donation forms part of the United Nation efforts to support Africa to respond and recover from COVID-19.

"It is also part of a broader partnership that UNDP and the Gauteng Province intends to establish within the framework of the new programme 2020-2025. "We certainly cannot afford for another pandemic to find us in a position where we cannot offer quality healthcare for all South Africans," added Dr Odusola.
