Construction progress at Ribane Laka School monitored in Mamelodi

Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and Property Management Ms. Tasneem Motara revisited Ribane Laka Secondary School in Mamelodi east, in the City of Tshwane, on the 22 October 2021 to monitor construction progress on this massive demolition and rebuild project. The existing school facilities are also being repaired and upgraded to provide safe and conducive environment for learning. The project will also help relieve the current overcrowding of students at the school.

The project also includes the upgrade of ICT infrastructure to bring it line with the demands of the information superhighway of the 21 century.

MEC Motara was accompanied by the DID Project manager Mr. Obed Baloyi, the contractor and the DID technical team. The Project Manager briefed the MEC since her last visit in June when it was excavation stages, stating that the construction was now between 20% and 30% in terms of progress.

The scope of work includes the demolition of the existing gatehouse, caretakers house, admin block, hall, staff. The introduction of new parking bays in front of the buildings along the street. Th refurbishment of all existing blocks including Ablution blocks so that they meet ICT standards. Construction of two newly constructed classroom blocks which will meet ICT standards and norms.

Other works include the provision of architectural, structural, civil, electrical and mechanical specifications to improve the current state of the facility.

The project also includes the participation of emerging enterprises and the creation of job opportunities for community members through the Expanded Public Works Programme.

 

The anticipated completion of the project has been set for end of March 2023.
