Government to improve the ease of doing business through SEZs

Gauteng Premier, David Makhura lauded the manner in which both national and provincial government worked with Ford Motor Company to streamlinee the administrative red-rape in doing business with government, which he said has been a major lesson that government can work smarter.

 "Government is working hard to improve the ease of doing business, and streamline administrative procedures including the time required to set up operations in the country," said Premier Makhura.

 Premier Makhura was speaking at the launch of the Tshwane Automotive Hub, Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Ford plant in Tshwane Silverton on Tuesday.

 Ford Motor Company is the first secured tenant of the Tshwane Auto SEZ and is one of the key partners of the province's automotive skills training programme delivered through the Automotive Industry Development Centre.

 The investment is expected to  increase employment opportunities and the growth of South Africa's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through exports.

 The completed infrastructure will yield a total production of R5.2 billion & create 19 433 jobs during the construction phase more than 6700 jobs once fully operational.

 The Automotive Hub is an outcome of the SA investment conference held in October 2018, where the automotive industry pledged investment, transformation and localization in fulfilment in the Automotive Master Development Plan 2035.

 The automotive hub, is part of the expansion of the OR Tambo International Airport( OTIA) Special Economic Zone.

 Ford Motor company CEO, Naele Hill welcomed the partnership between the government.

 "This unified approach between the public sector and private sector will yield positive results that will see to it that there is progress and growth in the economy of the country," said Hill.
