Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and Property Management Ms. Tasneem Motara visited the construction site of the Pitseng Primary School in Sebokeng Unit 10, Emfuleni Local Municipality, on the 12 October 2021 to monitor progress. The existing school was constructed in 1979 and due to ageing infrastructure, it is due for an upgrade. The project entails the refurbishment and renovation of facilities at the school to help cater to the growing needs of the community of Sebokeng.

"The project had a number of challenges, however the contractor's performance is satisfactory. If they push and work over the weekend to make up for lost time, we can be able to hand over the school within the next academic year." said Motara.

The MEC was joined by the Project Manager Ms. Tshifhularo Ramabulana, the DID Team and the contractors. The Project Manager briefed everyone on progress on the project, saying the anticipated completion date of the project is set for January 2022.

The scope of work includes repairs and renovation of two classroom blocks and an admin block, with one block almost complete. Other work packages on the project include building elements such as repairs to plaster and repainting wall, sealing and cleaning of face brick walls, repairs to floors; The replacement of damaged ceilings, roof sheeting and damp damaged roof trusses, purlins is also being undertaken.

There were other teams implementing Building Wet Services which includes replacement of plumbing and sanitary ware, Electrical Installations, Mechanical Installations and External Works such as repairs to parking and paved areas. The water reticulation system is also being overhauled in certain sections of the facility.

The challenges experienced during construction were community disruptions and this has resulted in work stoppages and the delay has put the construction about two months behind schedule.
