The official provincial funeral service for the late Gauteng Social Development MEC, Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe, is underway at the Vereeniging City Hall.
Premier David Makhura, ANC Treasurer General Paul Mashatile, Ministers, Gauteng MECs and mayors are attending the funeral of Nkabinde-Khawe , who had been a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2009.
She passed away on Friday, 1 November 2019, at the Mulbarton hospital. 
Following the May 2019 general election, Makhura appointed Khawe-Nkabinde the MEC for Social Development – the position she held until her passing.
Prior to her appointment, MEC Nkabinde-Khawe was a long serving member and Chairperson of the same portfolio at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Announcing her passing away over the weekend, Premier Makhura said MEC Nkabinde-Khawe demonstrated dedication and commitment to the people of Gauteng. 
Nkabinde-Khawe was passionate about the issues affecting the poor, children, women, the elderly and people living with disability as the most vulnerable section of the population.
The Premier will deliver a eulogy later today.
