Premier David Makhura on Tuesday handed over the certificate of completion for the newly rehabilitated R24 Road in the Magalies Central Business District.

The Premier was accompanied by MEC for Roads and Transport Jacob Mamabolo and Mogale City Municipality Mayor, Francis Makgatho, as part of the provincial October Transport Month.

Road maintenance projects form part of the Gauteng Provincial Government's #SmartMobility Programme aimed at improving road and transport infrastructure.

The R24 is a major East-West provincial route in the Gauteng and North West provinces that links OR Tambo International Airport with Rustenburg via Johannesburg, Krugersdorp and Magaliesburg.

The work, which started in June, includes the replacement of the existing 250mm diameter pipes with larger 600mm diameter pipes that run across the road as well as the pavement rehabilitation on the section of the road between Wimpy and the bridge.

Makhura's second stop was at the Magaliesburg Taxi Rank, where he observed the vaccination rollout targeting taxi operators and commuters.

Later he joined MEC for e-Government Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko at the youth ICT Skills Training Project underway at Orient Hills.

The programme offers training in 5G knowledge and cloud service development. Since inception in 2020, over 15 000 young people have benefited from the programme.
