Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane, on 17 August 2023, unveiled the Mapenane Maths, Science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
School of Specialisation.

This groundbreaking school, established in collaboration with SciBono, aims to cultivate a dynamic learning environment that nurtures proficiency in research and innovation and empowers learners to delve into cutting-edge areas, including creating drones, robots, and certifications in Rocketry, among other disciplines.

MEC Chiloane underscored the pivotal role of schools of specialisations that focus on research and innovation, highlighting the aspiration to transform all schools in Gauteng into centres of excellence for critical skills.

The school, situated in Zone 16, Garankuwa, embodies its commitment to forward-thinking education.

A distinctive feature of the school is establishing a digital library, ingeniously accessed through QR codes. This repository houses a collection of textbooks and supplementary learning materials, streamlining the learning process for students.

Learners from the school dazzled attendees by showcasing an intricately designed device replicating the anatomy of the human ear, demonstrating their adeptness in scientific exploration.

Furthermore, the learners conceived a dynamic "Maths Park," a vibrant space for interactive learning, fostering engagement with mathematical concepts like trigonometry and geometry through hands-on activities.

In the spirit of inclusivity, learners embarked on research to assess the needs of visually impaired individuals within their community and developed a GPS-enabled walking cane enhanced with sensors to aid the visually impaired in navigating their surroundings.

The launch of Mapenane School of Specialisation redefines the educational landscape in Gauteng and underscores the transformative potential of focused, innovative teaching.
