Gauteng MEC for Transport and Logistics, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela met her counterpart - MEC Sello Lehari from North-West Province's Community Safety and Transport Management, on Friday, 03 February 2023. The meeting's objective was to discuss issues affecting the North-West Transport Investment (NTI) Bus Company.

The meeting was the fourth in a series of bilateral meetings between both provinces intended to discuss immediate and long-term interventions required to rescue the ailing public entity. Both MECs received reports on ongoing work of the Inter-Provincial Technical Task Team and are satisfied with the progress.

The MEC's further received an urgent report on an emergency meeting with company leasing busses to NTI as a result of interrupted bus operations in the past week. It was agreed, at the meeting, that busses will return to operations on Saturday, 04 February 2023.

Referring to inconveniences caused by the bus interruptions, MEC Sello Lehari said "once again, we apologise to all affected commuters for the interruptions. We want to assure them that we are dealing with all identifiable problems, and we are committed to find lasting solutions".

"We work together as the two provinces, and we thank our colleagues from Gauteng for believing in the process of turning around of NTI," he added.

Gauteng MEC Diale-Tlabela also extended her apology to affected commuters for the recurring interruptions of operations.

"The ongoing work of the technical task team is giving us hope that lasting solutions can be attained. We are encouraged by the support we are receiving from all interested and affected stakeholders. We have a full appreciation that the challenges are complex, but it is doable," remarked the MEC.

The two MECs also took the opportunity to welcome the newly appointed Head of Department for Roads and Transport Dr. Thulani Mdadane, who commenced in his new role on 01 February 2023.

Dr Mdadane will co-convene the technical task team together with the Acting Head of Department for Community Safety and Transport Management in the North-West Province, Mr. Molefi Morule.

The MECs urged all senior managers from NTI and the two provincial departments to give both HODs the support they require to succeed.
