Gauteng residents want Makhura to focus on job creation in SOPA- 22 February 2021

Gauteng Premier David Makhura will on Tuesday, 23 February deliver his State of the Province Address (SOPA), which is expected to highlighting the provincial government's  action plan for the year ahead.

Gauteng online took to the streets to find out what residents were expecting from this year's State of the Province Address.

Sibusiso Sibisi from Bram Fischerville in Soweto is expecting the Premier to focus on the rising levels of youth unemployment, as the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the number of unemployed young people.

"Growing the economy through supporting small businesses is the most powerful instrument for reducing poverty and improving the quality of life in any society, " said Sibusiso.

Katlego Letshwiti would like to hear the Premier speak on plans on providing quality  education for everyone irrespective of their socio-economic background.

He would also like the Premier to talk about how the provincial government will empower teachers. "One way of improving quality of education is by giving back the integrity to teachers and the teaching profession through means of continuous professional development and support, " he added.

Promise Maseko from Nkangala Municipality would like the Premier to focus on jobs and SMMEs.

"The Premier should provide more skills development training with the focus on the financial literacy and business management skills to  small businesses and entrepreneurs", added Promise

Sphelele Chauke from Orange farm would like the Premier to focus on building more community centres for the youth, parks and create jobs. "he Premier must focus on undeveloped areas and in return Gauteng youth would be equipped with efficient skills and have more knowledge about the economy", said Sphelele.
