New kid on the block

Department of Social Development 2021/08/15 - 22:00

The Gauteng Department of Social Development has welcomed Sheron Davhana, as the newly appointed Personal Assistant to the Corporate Services Deputy Director-General, Amanda Hartmann. Davhana is no stranger to in the public service, she has been in the service for over ten years. Her love for administrative capacity has kept her in this line of work. And she believes her experience and expertise can contribute towards the growth of this country.

In 2009, Davhana started her career as an administration clerk at the South African Police Service where she worked for eight months. She then joined the Department of Justice in the City of Tshwane, as a personal assistant for the Chief Audit Executive Director for two years. In pursuing her career, Davhana left the department of Justice and joined the Department of Human Settlements for corporate services from 2012 to May 2017.

They soon realized her talents and was then appointed a personal assistant for the Director in the Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries where she served as a PA for four years. Shortly after, the head of the department was then transferred to the Cooperative Governance Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), where she continued her allocated duties as an assistant. Until she joined the Gauteng Department of Social Development recently.

People are often faced with an overwhelming discomfort when changing working environments, however Davhana says "The system and organizational structure are more or less the same, just new people", meaning that this new work environment has been the opposite of uncomfortable. Since she is already used to the departmental systems, the process of adapting to a new environment has not been a tedious one. "The adjustments have not been that big, so I just needed to learn who does what within the department so I can navigate my way through the departments systems in motion".

She states that the people within the department were so welcoming and awesome, and that it is a very peaceful working environment, however her good nterpersonal skills also play a huge role in being able to adapt to her new working environment.

Davhana explained that she genuinely wants to give her constant and full support to DDG Hartmann as DDG believes in grooming and mentoring people to release their full potential and grow while working under her.

She believes that it does not make sense for people to not want to flourish and become more equipped to take on new work challenges and positions. Davhana does not have a set plan yet for the future but says that she will stay under the department "until God states otherwise".
