Taking a few steps beyond the call of duty by Dr Yusuf Dadoo professional nurse led to a family finding their missing boy.

Sr Reginah Mthembu was walking to work when she noticed a young boy who was teased by people walking pass.

"I was touched and walked towards him.  I noticed that his behaviour was not normal but this was not caused by the influence of alcohol or drugs.  I then took him to the hospital with me,"

"As we walked, I tried to get his name and family details but he could only remember his first name, Lucky. In the hospital, he was admitted for mental observation and other medical conditions.  He took a bath, provided with a change of clothes and food which made a lot of difference," recalled Sister Mthembu.

While in hospital and taken care of by social workers, his family's search led them to the hospital.

"I was elated when he was reunited with his family and I also got to know that his surname is Lefallo. My maternal instincts told me that he was disturbed a little and the family is worried and searching.  I contacted them to check on his well-being and I am happy that he is recovering well and is in the care of his loving family," said Sr Mthembu.

Hospital CEO, Patrick Sofohlo said: "We are very happy to have staff members who have the heart to assist even the people they meet outside the hospital. We really applaud the community engagement when the patients and their parents end up being connected."
