Gauteng ready to welcome tourists over the festive season- 12 December 2020

MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment, Morakane Mosupyoe on Monday, 30 November 2020 launched the domestic tourism festive season promotional campaign.

The campaign which is aimed at stimulating the local visitor economy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, will also showcase Gauteng's readiness in the implementation of the de-risking protocols by tourism products, experiences and amenities

 "Gauteng is open and ready to once again offer the best experiences for locals and visitors to discover and enjoy. Some of these will be explored over a 4-day programme which commenced on 30 November in the western region of the province – an area that houses breathtaking leisure and outdoor adventure activities, as well as the world-renowned Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site," said the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) Acting CEO Barba Gaoganediwe.

The second leg, set to take place in the northern region of Tshwane, will kick off with a visit to the Rosslyn BMW plant to engage on leveraging opportunities for innovation and investments for the visitor economy in the province. The latter part of the programme will discover 'new urbanist' shopping and entertainment spaces in the Menlyn Maine precinct and culminate with nature activities at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve.

"As we emerge into sector recovery, Gauteng Tourism resumes its activities with a renewed spirit that aims to pursue and maximize on tourism economy diversification, attract investment, increase revenues and create job opportunities," added Gaoganediwe.

Gaoganediwe further appealed to Gauteng residents and visitors to be mindful of the COVID-19 protocols that have been put in place for their safety and encouraged people to keep their distance and to wear masks in public and closed places as they visit their favourite tourist attractions.
