GPG delivers services at Nancefield Hostel

​On Tuesday, 08 November 2022, the Gauteng Department of Social Development and the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and other provincial state departments hosted a Service Delivery Blitz at Nancefield Hostel in Klipspruit, Soweto, as part of the Township, Informal Settlements and Hostels Program (TISH) which was announced by the newly elected Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi. 

The program seeks to ensure economic recovery and development of townships, informal settlements and hostels by redirecting state budget to them. Part of this program is to safeguard townships and hostels by keeping them clean and assist with food gardens. 

Department of Social Development Joburg Region Director, Nhlanhla Mthimkhulu, said the purpose of the service delivery blitz was to create awareness on the anti-substance abuse drive by the provincial government.

Hostel Induna Tisha Shange welcomed the presence of the departments and said, “We are grateful as residents for your presence today and we wish that this drive can also be extended to other hostels”. 

Local resident Thandi Kubeka (29) also expressed her appreciation, she said, “We are grateful for this day, we received so much information from different departments who are present here. I have also learned a lot ”. 

Departments who participated in the service delivery blitz program amongst others was the Department of Health, Community Safety, Labour, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Non-Profitmaking Organizations (NPO’s) including the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA).
