Reitumetsi Cooperative Management members are determined on creating employment for the community members through their business funded by Gauteng Department of Social Development. The team owns a clothing and school uniform manufacturing corporations in Krugersdorp in the West Rand.

"Our corporation was established in 2011 following the introduction of Bana Pele (Children First) programme in 2010 by the Gauteng Department of Social Development, a school uniform manufacturing project.

After the establishment of our cooperative, we applied at the Department to become part of the project, we complied with all the processes, met the requirements and grabbed the opportunity", said management which comprises of Lizzy Ramaru, Kelebogile Kunupi, Anastacia Ramaru, Nokuthula Sithole and Manana Mokgatla.

During an interview with Weekly Bulletin, Chairperson of the Cooperative, Lizzy Ramaru shared their journey.

She said, "When we started a decade ago it was not easy because we did not have knowledge of running a business. Due to the guidance and the support we got from Gauteng Department of Social Development we managed to pull through over the years. We have expanded our project because we are no longer manufacturing only school uniform. We are now producing clothes for individuals, church uniforms, work suits for factories, curtains and bedding", she said.

"Through determination we are still going strong and we established another cooperative Lejwe La Motheo sewing cooperative to create more jobs and empower others to own businesses. We are now venturing into upholstery and headboards. We also do interior and exterior design. We always rope in community members; we develop them by giving sewing skills. We welcome everyone who is determined regardless of race, gender and age.

We wish we can get a bigger space and more machinery to expand to create more jobs. We want to empower others as we were also empowered by Social Development. We will forever be grateful to the department for the opportunity they afforded us with, and we will show our gratitude by empowering others", she concluded.
