Maphumulo, a champion and servant of the people

Department of Social Development 2023/03/02 - 22:00

This week, Weekly Bulletin would like to recognise and honour Nomthandazo Maphumulo, a Community Development Supervisor under Sustainable Livelihoods in Ekurhuleni Region for going beyond her line of duty to support the vulnerable.

In January this year, Maphumulo reached through her deep pockets, to ensure that one child receives a full set of school uniform. She did this by also calling on fellow employees in the region to donate new and old school uniforms.

Speaking to our reporter, Phetoho Maja, the down to earth Maphumulo said she wants to continue with this patronage, so that dependency can be reduced from the government.

“This should be an annual internal campaign in the Department, calling on fellow colleagues to donate new and old clothes, blankets, and school uniform,” she said.

“These will go to those who need them the most, especially during a harsh winter season and during the reopening of our schooling calendar,” said Maphumulo.

She added, “When called to motivate people, I never leave without quoting Mahatma Ghandi, in which he said, Be the change that you want to see in the world and I live by that motto too.”

It goes without saying that Maphumulo is incredibly passionate about her work, to serve the most vulnerable in our communities even outside her line of duty.
