Over 260 residents of the Kromdraai community had their power switched on for the first-time following years of delays. The electrification project, initiated by the Mogale City Local Municipality, faced significant delays due to the required environmental approvals.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi addressed the residents during the switch-on of 267 households, assuring them of the provincial government's commitment to fast-tracking service delivery in the Mogale City area. He thanked the residents for their patience and emphasised the importance of providing essential services.

Lesufi urged the community to protect the new infrastructure and prevent vandalism. He also pledged to return to the area to deliver free Wi-Fi to the community.

The project received funding confirmation in 2023 from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) as part of the Integrated National Electrification Programme (INEP), with a budget of over R20 million.

The event was attended by Mogale City Local Municipality Mayor Danny Toupane, Tyrone Gray, and Eskom officials.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Premier Lesufi mentioned that he is ready to announce his cabinet but is waiting for the go-ahead from the national government. He confirmed that all negotiations and discussions regarding the provincial cabinet's composition have been completed.
