​Gauteng MEC for Social Development Morakane Mosupyoe said that the department will soon introduce mentorship programs that are aimed at eliminating gender-based violence (GBV).
MEC Mosupyoe was addressing Ntirhisano Youth Program themed GP Youth Unplug, as part of Youth Month event, with focused on young men to empower them on GBV prevention, at Entokozweni Resource Centre in Mamelodi East.

She said through our six Centres of Excellence are located in different regions, the department hopes to introduce mentorship programs for young men to grow up with a positive attitude and on how to treat their female counterparts. “As government we have been focusing more on a girl child while neglecting the boy child”.

She said that apartheid was designed to break the black family structures, “Fathers were supposed to go and work in faraway towns and leave children to grow without them and stayed with their mothers who will be challenged to raise young boys alone”.

Local motivational speaker Tasca Molemane encouraged the youth in attendance to do self-introspection on what they want to achieve in life sooner than later.

In Tshwane , there are about five Youth Development Non-Profitmaking Organisations (NPO’s) which are funded by the Gauteng Department of Social Development providing different Skills Development Programmes to youth between the ages of 18 – 35 years and they also assist to link them to available job opportunities.
