The Sedibeng District Municipality has commended the residents for heeding the call to get vaccinated during the Vooma Vaccination Weekend.

The district administered 3 834 vaccines during the weekend drive held on from 12 – 14 November 2021.

To ramp up the vaccination drive, the district working together with the Gauteng Department of Health has also increased the number of public vaccination sites from 28 to 40.

The district has again activated 12 new vaccination sites in Emfuleni Local Municipality, Midvaal Local Municipality and Lesedi Local Municipality.

The new vaccination sites mean that Emfuleni, Midvaal and Lesedi Local municipalities have 30, 6 and 4 public vaccination sites respectively excluding private vaccination sites.

The Sedibeng District is one of the regions which has seen a low uptake of the vaccine since the mass vaccination campaign started earlier this year.

As of Monday, 15 November, the district has administered 310 930 vaccines of which 174 144 are for fully vaccinated individuals.

All persons from 12 years and older are encouraged to take advantage of both public and private vaccination sites and get vaccinated.

The sites accept walk-ins whether people are registered on EVDS or not.
