In the spirit of Good Friday, residents of the Zanele Mbeki Frail Care Centre in Dunnottar were treated to a special lunch at Spur Restaurant in Springs Mall. This heart warming gesture ensured that elderly residents, many of whom could not reunite with family over the Easter weekend, felt cared for and celebrated.

The Zanele Mbeki Frail Care Centre, founded by Tienie Vorster in 1975 and renamed in honour of Thabo Mbeki's wife in 2008,is a190-bed facility dedicated to restoring dignity and providing specialised care for Elderly and Persons with Disability. Frail care focuses on supporting those who have lost the ability to manage daily activities independently, offeringasafe and nurturing environment.

"Some families have abandoned their loved ones and do not visit during holidays," explained Social Auxiliary Worker Selinah Nkomonde. "We organised this outing as part of Spur Springs Mall's pensioners' package so our residents could experience the joy of dining out over Easter."

Nkomonde emphasised the importance of the break from routine: "For residents confined to the institution, an outing like this is an adventure. We encourage them to save pocket money for treats, but many have never had visitors or holiday excursions, some families only visit once every three months."

Reflecting on the partnership, she added, "We're grateful to Spur Springs Mall for showing our residents that they are valued. Seeing their smiles throughout the meal reminded us how much moments like this mean."

This thoughtful collaboration not only filled plates but also warmed hearts, reminding everyone that small acts of kindness can make a world of difference
