On Thursday, 21 August, 2025, the Diepkloof Community Hall in Soweto hosted a stakeholder meeting in preparation for the upcoming G20 Leaders' Summit.
Led by MEC for Health Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, the gathering brought together government officials, local leaders, and community members to review the progress report on the work that has been done, as well as the pending work that requires urgent attention. It also served as a platform for stakeholders and community members to engage meaningfully.
Various rehabilitation projects have been initiated in and around the Nasrec Expo precinct in Johannesburg.
These rehabilitation projects include more than 77km of guardrail replacement, stormwater drain cleaning, the repair of 5,800 identified streetlights, road marking refurbishment, 480km of grass cutting, the filling of 1,400 identified potholes, and fencing around the Nasrec Precinct and on the R24 road.
The stakeholders emphasised the importance of involving local businesses, particularly those led by women, in G20-related opportunities
As the engagement ended, community members expressed the hope that the G20 Summit would bring noticeable change to the community.
Visible policing, maintaining a clean township, addressing social issues, and crime should remain a priority beyond the G20 summit.
