Mobile healthcare train provides much needed services to residents of Soweto

The Johannesburg Health District in collaboration with Transnet brought healthcare to the doorstep of residents of  Dube Train Station, Soweto with the Phelophepha Healthcare Train.

The train  provides comprehensive, quality healthcare  services closer to the communities. 

The Phelophepa will be visiting communities  in different areas in the Gauteng Province offering primary healthcare services to supplement those that are provided by the Department of Health.

The Phelophepa Healthcare Train provided service at Dube Station from 21 June to 9 July 2021, operating from Monday to Friday. Services that were provided included eye, dental, health and psychology clinic.

A 97-year-olde, Enna Ketswa from Naturena could not hide her excitement after receiving her spectacles. 

"I am so excited to receive this helpful service. I cannot believe that now I will be able to read my Bible properly, and I can see from a distance. I plead with the Health Department and Transnet to continue providing this service to our people as they are helpful and affordable," said Ketswa. 

Phelophepa Acting Train Manager, Thelma Satekge expressed her gratitude for this partnership with the Department.  

"It was wonderful working with Gauteng Health in the Johannesburg District. Despite challenges caused by the pandemic, the train managed to reach a large number of people." 

"We are looking forward to continuing working with Gauteng Heath Department and the Johannesburg District as they enhance our service delivery and mobilize our services effectively," she said

The Phelophepha train is currently providing services to communities in the Sedibeng region.
