Department spends R6.5m on rehabilitation of Sedibeng roads

Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo has launched a project to rehabilitate the road network around the Emfuleni Local Municipality, in the Sedibeng District Municipality. The Department has set aside an amount of R6,5 million for the exercise.

MEC Mamabolo, accompanied by Sedibeng District Executive Mayor Cllr Busi Modisakeng and others visited street projects in Bophelong, Sebokeng, Evaton, Sharpeville, Steel Park and Vereeniging during the launch.

The delegation assisted with the filling of potholes and attending to other road defects on various routes in the Sedibeng area.

Rehabilitation work is underway on Moshoeshoe, Vilakazi Streets and Adam Road with completion expected in November 2019.

Remarking on the launch, MEC Mamabolo said that "the Department has plans to continually improve its rehabilitation and maintenance programmes, in order to facilitate the provision of a world-class road infrastructure, improved safety and mobility whilst promoting small and emerging contractors".

He also used the event to appeal to communities to assist with keeping the road infrastructure in good condition, free from vandalism and to also address issues regarding illegal dumping.
