Various stakeholders in the health industry including traditional healers, youth and women’s organisations, men’s forum and members of commission for gender equality gathered to explore Sexual Reproductive Health with an emphasis on termination of pregnancy at Tshwane recently.

Programme Manager for Maternal, Child and Women’s Health and Genetics encouraged people to talk about termination of pregnancy openly to encourage women to use public health facilities for this service without fear of stigma.

“Stigma and discrimination is the reason that leads many woman and girls to seek medical attention at illegal abortion facilities,” she said.

Amongst the resolutions for the workshop that will be implemented in the district is rolling out outreach programmes to educate people about the dangers of illegal abortions as well as services available to women who wish or need to terminate unwanted pregnancies.
