Since its launch in September 2021, the #RequestASlot campaign has been able to assist over 60 000 motorists secure slots to renew their driving license cards.

The Department of Roads and Transport launched the #RequestASlotGP campaign to enable licence cardholders to request and get allocated a booking slot. This eliminates the need to visit licensing centres to make a booking.

This web-based license renewal booking system was created to enable cardholders, at their convenience, to request for a slot. Previously, notices on slot availability were sent to cardholders whose licenses were due to expire without them asking for it. The onus is now on cardholders to take the initiative and make the request. The platform also assists with fast tracking the licence renewal process and providing for more options in securing a booking at licensing centres.

Requests can be sent to the following email addresses:

  1. requestaslot@gauteng.gov.za
  2. requestaslot@rtmc.co.za

This platform ensures bookings are secured within 30 days thus eliminating the need of having to go and pay at licensing centres.

Speaking at the launch of the platform, MEC Jacob Mamabolo remarked that “through this campaign, we seek to form partnerships with people, motorists and license cardholders to create platforms for them to request a slot. Applicants will be allocated slots within 30 days, upon receipt of the required, full information by the Department”.

The campaign has given opportunities to young people, with a total of eight (08) interns recruited specifically to assist with the capturing of information from applicants/cardholders and making applications on the platform.
