Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and Cooperative Governance, Lebogang Maile on Thursday, 8 April visited various vaccination sites in the Tshwane district that are earmarked for the next phase of the vaccination programme in the province.
The purpose of the visits was to check the sites state of readiness for the next phase of the vaccination programme in the province. MEC Maile visited Saulsville Arena, Lucas Moripe stadium and Olievenhoutbosch sport complex.
To date, over 70 000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in Gauteng.
He said once phase two begins, it would represent a major change in the pace and scale of South Africa's vaccination effort.
"Phase two will focus on the 16.6-million people in the whole country  falling into one of four categories, essential workers, persons in congregate settings, people over 60 years of age and individuals over 18 years with comorbidities" said Maile.
He added that he was happy to see how prepared the province is for the next phase of the vaccination programme and was encouraged with what he has seen during his visits.
