Beneficiary of the Gauteng Department of Social Development older persons programme, Patricia Sobopa (93), says one of her biggest dream is to celebrate hundred years.

Sobopa, a President of Vaal Professional Senior Citizen still sits behind the steering wheel and drive herself around in her Mazda 2 despite rude taxi drivers insulting her to drive fast or move her car from the road.

She says she always encourage other senior citizen to share their problems and speak out with others to avoid stress.

"Spending more time exercising and eating healthy has made me live longer," she said.

Sebopa is a retired teacher who attended the regional older persons choir festival in the Vaal.

"On a daily basis I make sure that I eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink a lot of water because the body needs that."

"I once collapsed, but I prayed to God that I still want to be independent and not rely on anyone for assistance," said Sobopa.

She emphasized that as a healthy senior citizen, she would like to encourage the youth of today to stay away from drugs and alcohol because it would lead them to the grave before time.

She says she would like to see the department coming with more activities for older persons that will also involve youth and the community as well.
