Gauteng Provincial Government has established six War Rooms to fast-track service delivery, drive economic recovery, unlock economic growth and create sustainable jobs. 
"We have now established Six War Rooms to drive the implementation of our priorities on jobs and the economy, fighting poverty and hunger, fighting crime and stemming out lawlessness, improving clean governance, audit outcomes and paying service providers on time, fast-tracking infrastructure delivery and maintenance, and cutting red tape across government," said Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC Jacob Mamabolo.
The War Rooms, with industry leaders, held their first plenary sessions as the province shifts from a public health emergency to an economic and service delivery emergency.
Mamabolo was presenting the Office of the Premier's 2022/23 financial year budget vote at the Gauteng Legislature on behalf of Premier David Makhura.
On service delivery, Mamabolo said the provincial government is working with stakeholders in accelerating basic service delivery through the Ntirhisano programme. 
"We must gladly be accountable to the democratic and transformative ideals of our Constitution and work together to turn those ideals into a daily reality for the people as a whole, leaving no one behind."
Furthermore, he said Premier Makhura has directed law enforcement agencies to respond with urgency to the increasing crime incidents in the province, especially when it comes to crimes against women and children, vandalisation of infrastructure and activities of what has been referred to as "the construction mafia" that stops or hijacks projects in communities.
With the passing of the Township Economic Development Act (TEDA) in May, Mamabolo said the provincial government seeks to direct collective energies on transforming township spaces into thriving commercial and cultural centres that empower people and improve their lives. 
The province is also repositioning the Tshepo 1 Million flagship programme strategy into a broader integrated youth development intervention.
The Executive Council has already approved a draft strategy that will be unveiled on 16 June 2022, together with the civil-society-led Gauteng Youth Advisory Panel (GYAP). 
The panel will advise the Premier and the Executive Council on the implementation of an integrated and sustainable, transformative youth development initiatives and strengthen multi-sectoral coordination, across different spheres of society.
The Gauteng Ethics Advisory Committee's efforts to promote integrity and fight against corruption in the province are gaining momentum working with the Public Service Commission, Special Investigating Unit, Auditor-General South Africa and the Public Protector. 
"We are determined to do everything to win the war against corruption and maladministration. We owe it to our people and to our electoral mandate, which is ultimately a pact between government and the electorate, to promote clean governance which delivers on their socio-economic needs."
