Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and COGTA Mr. Jacob Mamabolo has inspected five construction projects in various corridors of the province, as of December 2024, as part of preparations for handover to several client departments on whose behalf his department implements the projects.
The projects include the new state-of-the-art Bantu Bonke Early Childhood Development Centre in Sedibeng District Municipality, Simunye Secondary School in Westonaria, Rand West Municipality, Bramfischer Primary School in SOWETO, City of Johannesburg, Dr. W.K. Du Plessis School for Learners with Special Education Needs [LSEN] in Springs, Ekurhuleni Municipality, Semphato Secondary School in Soshanguve, and Ribane Laka Secondary School in Mamelodi, City of Tshwane.
The MEC said although he was fully confident in the ability of his department to deliver quality social infrastructure to help improve the lives of communities it was important to complete the various projects on time and within the allocated resources. He was accompanied by senior managers from his department, including the Head of Department Ms Masabata Mutlaneng.
Bramfischer Primary School was all set in December for official handover on school opening day in January 2025. This followed extensive completion processes involving the municipality and other regulatory bodies. The four other construction projects were also at advanced stages of implementation, looking set to increase the total value of public assets in Gauteng, upon completion.
The projects have also contributed to the creation of job opportunities and the empowerment of emerging contractors the underlying communities.
