In an effort to ensure that patients admitted at the hospital receive not only medical care but also much needed emotional and spiritual support, the Tshwane District Hospital together with Hospivision has put together skills development and spiritual support programmes to benefit patients during their stay at the hospital.

Hospivision brings in emotional support services into the hospital setup, right into the wards to offer spiritual care for in-patients.

An extension of this support service is also the skills development programmes for the outpatients and for patients who access Ward 53 for collection of chronic medication on a monthly basis.

"Hospivision has created a variety of small-scale skills development programmes at the Oasis Centre based in the hospital premises to empower these patients to generate an income for themselves."

"These services don't only cater for the in- patients, but also caters for their family members, staff members who care for these patients as well as out-patients at the hospital clinics," said the Hospital CEO, Monene Mogashoa

The practical skills offered at the centre include sewing, needlework, baking, computer literacy and gardening where various faith communities, NGO's and businesses in the area support.

Commenting on this partnership with the hospital, The CEO of Hospivision, Reverend Thabiso Mashiloane said: "Illness impacts both on the individual and those around them, so we want to help people to get their lives back through this skills development support services. We cannot wait for renovations to be finished at the centre to ensure that more lives are touched with our services."

Hospivision also offers debriefing to staff during this pandemic by providing psychosocial support and a soup kitchen on Monday-Thursday for outpatient clinics as well as oncology.
