Daily infection cases indicate that Gauteng is approaching a peak in the third wave of COVID-19.

"The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gauteng as at 11 July sits 8543 active cases, 763 653 recoveries and 14 377 deaths.  A total of 8804 people are currently hospitalised, 3155 in public and 5649 in private facilities," said Premier David Makhura. The rise in the number of hospitalisations are still a very serious concern.

"The Delta variant is highly transmissible, we therefore need to do everything in our power to avoid contracting the virus, especially those with comorbidities and weakened immune system who might require hospitalisation in the event they contract the virus", cautioned Premier Makhura.

He added that Gauteng had observed an increase in household outbreak cases and cautioned against complacency when around family members.

As of 8 July 2021, 1 245 328 people had been registered on the Electronic Vaccination Data System with a total of 845 180 people vaccinated in the province.

"Each vaccination brings us one step closer to a better future and to the things we miss", said Makhura.
