A total of three hundred and thirty-five (355) public servants have tested positive of the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020. This number includes healthcare workers and educators.

"Like all other patients, affected staff members and their family members are receiving care and treatment in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) protocols.

"All other staff members who were in contact with those that tested positive have been tested and will follow all protocols to prevent the spread of the virus," said Premier Makhura.

Some of the measures that the provincial government has put in place to combat the spread off Covid-19 include the ongoing decontamination of all public buildings.

"As part of continuous medical surveillance protocol, public servants undergo daily screening and some are referred for testing," added Makhura.

The provincial government continues to call for significant behaviour change among the residents to stop the spread of the virus, which includes the wearing of masks in public, washing of hands, and observing physical distance.

In an effort to manage the rising demand on healthcare services, the provincial government is continuously increasing its capacity in terms of hospital beds and is looking into establishing field hospitals.

The provincial government is also in talks with the national government for reinforcement and further support to strengthen its response to the pandemic.
