Mosupyoe joins congregants to celebrate Mothers day

On Sunday Gauteng Social Development MEC Morakane Mosupyoe joined parishioners to celebrate Mother's Day at Meadowlands Parish Church of Resurrection.

Speaking to the congregants Mosupyoe compared Charlotte Maxeke to Esther in the Bible quoting from Esther chapter 4 verse 14. She honored Maxeke's spirit of advocacy in the fight against colonialism and oppression. While facing extraordinary challenges in the apartheid era, she still managed to attain unparalleled achievements.

She encouraged the congregants, particularly women, to be the Esther's and Maxeke's of their time and rise to the occasion. Mosupyoe added that this can be realized through helping others and becoming agents of change in communities and country by defeating gender-based violence, hunger, unemployment, and class and racial imbalances. She urged that we must all rise together to fully embrace the provincial vision to 'Grow Gauteng Together' (GGT 2030).

"Not all Kings and Queens wear crowns. We must be Kings and Queens in our communities that stand for something," she said.

The Meadowlands Parish Church of Resurrection feeds 500 people through the soup kitchen and food garden and dreams to own a farm in Soweto. The Gauteng Department of Social Development has committed to establishing a sustainable programme, extending older persons programme and replicating the Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe Agro Village at the church.

Mosupyoe also motivated the elderly to register for COVID-19 vaccination and emphasized that following COVID-19 protocols is essential as the infection is on the rise.
