The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has unveiled its Digital Turnaround technology aimed at strengthening departmental mandate of delivering services on time, within specifications and within budget.

Addressing a media briefing at the launch in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 2 March 2022, MEC for  Roads and Transport, Jacob Mamabolo said: "The launch seeks to introduce appropriate technology in all areas of the department's infrastructure delivery value chain and the way in which value is delivered.

"The matrix, which was developed internally, will ensure that no projects encroach cemeteries, municipal services, building fences and power lines."

The technology includes Project Management Dashboard which will be controlled by the department and allow contractors implementing projects to provide information on the progress of the project.

The other technology to be used is the Project Readiness Matrix which will  deal with compliance according to the build environment requirements, water use licences and environmental requirements.

The other digital system is the daily reporting tool for all contractors developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) which will enable every contractor to update the department on work done, quantify it and be able to send pictures to the department.

MEC Mamabolo said the programme will change how the department uses technology, people, and processes to achieve its objectives.

"The department recognises the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution and its importance in changing how projects are delivered, how business is conducted and how value is created," said Mamabolo.

The MEC also announced that the department has appointed Malatji Attorneys & Company in a three-year contract to serve as the compliance office.

"This is to enforce compliance in terms of meeting deadlines set and adhering to all legislation in the delivery of projects," he said.
