Traffic Signals - Department intensifies efforts to conduct maintenance, repairs

Department of Roads and Transport 2022/05/01 - 22:00

The Department has taken over and is attending to defective traffic signals along provincial roads.

It is intensifying its efforts to promptly conduct repairs and render maintenance services.

Motorists can report defective traffic signals by sending an email to: TrafficSignals@gauteng.gov.za .  The Department has a 14 day turn-around time.

This comes after the Department  and the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) agreed to end the working relationship that saw the roads agency design, install, repair and maintain traffic signals on behalf of the provincial department.

Parties could not agree to renew the service level agreement (SLA) that would have resulted in the agency continuing to actively maintain and repair 231 signalised intersections on provincial roads across the City.

The SLA originally ran from September 2017 and expired in August 2020.

Motorists are kindly urged to treat affected intersections as four-way stops, be considerate and importantly be safe.
