JW Luckhoff Child and Youth Care Center (CYCC) in Heidelberg, Sedibeng is one of the thirteen Gauteng Department of Social Development-run institutions that will be renamed.

The institution will be renamed after Patrick Mabutho Hlatshwayo.

Hlatshwayo was a teacher by profession. He was born in Ratanda in 1961 and he attended his primary school at Samkezi Primary School which is currently known as Sthokomele Primary School. He obtained his teaching certificate in 1981.

He started working as a qualified teacher in 1984 at Ratanda Secondary School teaching Isizulu, Natural Science and Mathematics and he was later appointed Deputy Principal.

Hlatshwayo served as a Branch Secretary for South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), and he was also ordained as a Minister of Religion of the Holy Ethiopian Methodist Church of Africa in 2010. Not only that Hlatshwayo was also a Branch Office Bearer of the African National Congress (ANC) for twelve years and he also played a very crucial role in organizing peace amongst the warring factions during the 1984 uprising.

Before his passing he was appointed Principal of Kgoro Ya Thuto Secondary School and according to the community, being the head of that school, he made a lot of changes. The community felt that it was blessed to have him as one of their leaders.

He served the community of Ratanda with the utmost respect, and he was intelligent and involved. He was a peacemaker who brought people together to achieve great things with everyone.

Sedibeng Stakeholder Relations Representative, Daniel Hadebe said all processes were followed, and community members were involved.

We made sure that all the necessary documents are completed including the attendance register that was signed by all community members”.
