R24 - Department undertakes major road rehabilitation

Department of Roads and Transport 2021/06/14 - 22:00

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is embarking on a road rehabilitation project along the R24 Road in the Magalies Central Business District. The rehabilitation will commence on Monday, 14 June 2021 and is expected to run until the end of July, a period of approximately six weeks.

Road maintenance projects form part of the Gauteng Provincial Government's #SmartMobility Programme aimed at improving road and transport infrastructure.

It is expected that traffic will, during this period, be controlled by means of a Stop and Go operation, except for abnormal vehicles which will be diverted to alternative routes.

Works to be undertaken includes:

1) Replacing the existing 250mm diameter pipes with larger 600mm diameter pipes that run across the road;

2) Pavement rehabilitation on the section of the road between Wimpy and the bridge.

The Department apologises for the inconvenience and wishes to thank motorists for their patience and understanding.
